Communicate for Clarity

Communicating is multi-directional; it is the act of providing and receiving information; up, down and across an organization.

High Impact Leaders understand that communicating for clarity involves knowing how to deliver information that people will comprehend and seeks answers for understanding information being provided.

The main elements of Communicating for Clarity are:

  • Consistently providing the why, how, what, when, who and where of the messages being delivered.

  • Asking the right questions to gain details, insight and intent to truly understand the information being received.

  • Using storytelling as a way to provide context and greater understanding.

Simplify for Effectiveness

Producing greater results requires leaders to search for the most direct and least complicated way to achieve their objective.

High Impact Leaders know that the ability to simplify requires a level of detachment from day-to-day activities allowing them to observe and identify areas of improvement.

The main elements of Simplifying for Effectiveness are:

  • Identifying, questioning and eliminating redundancies, unnecessary processes or procedures, and outdated methodologies.

  • Encouraging others to identify areas of improvement and actively soliciting input from subordinate leaders.

  • Being intimately familiar with desired end goals at a strategic level while also having an understanding of the day-to-day activities from a tactical level.

Prioritize and Act

Identifying and understanding the most important steps to take in order to achieve your desired outcome; and then developing and taking action on your clear next steps.

High Impact Leaders understand the importance of determining the right course of action to reach their goal within a specific timeframe.

The main elements of Prioritizing and Acting are:

  • Having a crystal clear understanding of the end goals and what is needed to achieve them.

  • Seeking and incorporating feedback from their teams during planning.

  • Applying iterative decision making to allow for adjustments and learning toward reaching the end goal.

Conviction and Caring

Believing in yourself and acting in a way that exemplifies your values and the values of your organization; and holding others to the same standard while demonstrating sincere attention to their individual needs.

High Impact Leaders truly believe in who they are, what they are doing and helping others achieve their potential.

The main elements of Conviction and Caring are:

  • Knowing what you stand for and exhibiting it through action.

  • Practicing servant leadership by putting the needs of your people ahead of your own.

  • Celebrating victories with the people who achieve them and taking ultimate accountability for any failures.

Decentralized Decision Making

Encouraging and empowering others to take ownership and be accountable for getting their jobs done in a way that meets your goals and objectives in line with the broader goals of the organization.

High Impact Leaders provide strategic guidance while trusting subordinate leaders to execute within their tactical expertise.

The main elements of Decentralized Decision Making are:

  • Involve subordinate leaders in planning to allow them to provide input and develop the detailed action steps to achieving the end goal.

  • Establish limits of authority and boundaries for people to operate within before needing your involvement.

  • Provide candid feedback in a timely manner to encourage positive behavior or address what can be learned from negative actions.
